Anointed

A sermon on Luke 4: 14-21

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
    because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Through the rest of his life, this is what Jesus stood for – a summary of what it means to follow him. A summary of what we are called to do as his church – the continuation of that ministry in 2022 and beyond.  And if we are doing it right – and in so many ways we are – this is what you are doing by coming to this church, joining in our worship and ministries, taking leadership roles, helping financially, volunteering.

And we do not do any of these things because we are strong, or we are committed.  We do them because the Spirit of the Lord is upon us, among us, around us, within us, fitting us for things we did not know we were able to do, creating a community dedicated to the will of God.

Windsor Presbyterian is a church that strives to be this kind of church, dedicated to Jesus’ mission in the world. To hear more of this sermon and this commitment, listen here.
